IHCA/INCAL Issues Statement Supporting Governor Holcomb’s Continued Face Covering Requirement

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (October 14, 2020): The Indiana Health Care Association and Indiana Center for Assisted Living released the following statement supporting Governor Holcomb’s extension of the mask mandate in response to the recent COVID-19 uptick.

“We thank Governor Holcomb for his continued leadership in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and fully support his call to Hoosiers to remain vigilant, to wear a mask, and physically distance. We also encourage all Hoosiers to take personal responsibility in doing their part to stop the spread of the virus, especially to protect our state’s most vulnerable.  Please Mask Up!

Since the onset of the pandemic, our LTC facilities have received unprecedented targeted direction by both the federal and the state governments to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Indiana’s LTC providers are grateful for the partnership with the Indiana Department of Health and will continue to make every effort to adapt to the changing demands this pandemic continues to require. Indiana’s LTC providers have stepped up to implement effective infection control protocols while providing around-the-clock care to protect our state’s frail and elderly.

Indiana’s LTC providers are a part of the surrounding community in which they provide care.    As we have seen COVID-19 cases increase, it is essential for all to understand that LTC communities are not immune to the wider spread of COVID-19 in the surrounding communities.  Experts have repeatedly noted that COVID-19 cases in a surrounding community is a top factor in outbreaks in long term care.

Indiana’s LTC providers are doing an outstanding job during this recent uptick in COVID-19 cases. According to the latest data available on the COVID-19 dashboard, the total number of new cases in long term care facilities represent only four percent of total new COVID-19 cases in Indiana over the last 30 days.

Join your LTC providers in protecting the most vulnerable in our state – Please Mask Up, Hoosiers!”
