In the race to be on the ballot for Indiana’s second-highest office, Republican delegates recently elected Micah Beckwith for Lt. Gov. Candidate. The Indiana Democratic Party will hold its convention on Saturday, July 13, where Democratic candidates for lieutenant governor and attorney general will be chosen. Here are more highlights on the 2024 elections taking shape, and an update on party leadership.

More than 1,700 delegates to the Indiana Republican Party’s state convention were responsible for electing the Republican Lt. Governor and Attorney General candidates. Micah Beckwith was elected as the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor. He prevailed over State Rep. Julie McGuire by a vote of 891-828. Gubernatorial candidate Mike Braun had announced McGuire as his preferred pick after he won the Republican primary in May, but Beckwith was able to gain more votes after running as an independent candidate for the past year. Even a late-breaking endorsement of Rep. McGuire by former President Donald Trump was unable to sway the convention delegates.

The Indiana Democratic Party will hold its convention on Saturday, July 13, where Democratic candidates for lieutenant governor and attorney general will be chosen. Democrat gubernatorial candidate, Jennifer McCormick, announced her endorsed candidate for Lt. Gov. to be former State Rep. Terry Goodin. Clif Marsiglio, Bobby Kern, and Tonya Roberts have all also filed to run for Lt. Gov at the Democrat Convention. Former Secretary of State candidate Destiny Wells and former Marion County Clerk Beth White are both campaigning for the attorney general nod.

Just this week, the Indiana Republican State Committee unanimously elected former lawmaker and lobbyist Randy Head to be the next chair of the state GOP, replacing outgoing Anne Hathaway. Read more from the Indiana Capital Chronical.

John Hammond stepped down earlier this year as one of Indiana’s Republican National Committeeman. The Indiana Republican State Committee unanimously elected Victor Smith last week to replace him.
