The CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) has released COVID-19 Data on AL/residential care communities.  These are dynamic figures in which you can choose how you view the data (census region or MSA) and by population (staff or resident) regarding COVID-19 cases, deaths, and hospitalizations. This does include a breakdown by community characteristics including NFP vs FP (FPs having a much higher case number). Additional figures include PPE shortages; practices for prevention, response or management of COVID-19; and percentage of RCCs that imposed in-person restrictions during the pandemic.

A few things to note about the survey:

  1. Data collected from November 2020-March 2021
  2. Survey data collected through questionnaires administered to RCC directors/administrators (so there could be bias with any retrospective data asking about cases, deaths, etc.)
  3. They surveyed 3,295 RCCs (they have rigorous sample and eligibility criteria they follow to get as representative as possible). Data is weighted to be nationally representative.

The dynamic tables can be viewed here.  If you have any questions, please contact Lindsay Schwartz, lschwartz@ncal.org
