Celebrating COVID-19 Recoveries

A Salute to fearless caregivers

COVID-19 Recoveries in Indiana's Long Term Care Facilities

Over the last several months, Indiana’s long term care providers and caregivers have gone above and beyond in the midst of extremely challenging circumstances to battle a historic healthcare crisis. It is because of the tireless dedication of these caregivers that  hundreds of residents are recovering from COVID-19 on a weekly basis. These resident recoveries are a testament to the hard work and extraordinary care delivery by long term caregivers. We are awed by the dedication of these caregivers and salute them for their fearless and compassionate service.

We’re pleased to partner with LeadingAge Indiana, HOPE and INALA to launch a new initiative aimed at collecting resident recovery data from Indiana’s long term care facilities to  provide a clearer picture of the COVID-19 status and highlight the positive results that we are seeing in the state’s long term care communities.

As part of this statewide data collection effort, we are tracking resident recoveries taking place in Indiana’s long term care facilities on a weekly basis. The dashboard below will be updated each week.

About COVID-19 Recoveries

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the decision to discontinue transmission-based precautions for residents with confirmed COVID-19 should be made using either  the symptom-based strategy, test-based strategy or time-based strategy. These strategies are also being used by the Indiana State Department of Health to determine if the resident can be discharged from red to the green zone.

We’re pleased to share that residents in long term care facilities are beginning to fully recover from COVID-19. According to the data reported by 66 long term care  facilities battling the virus, a total of 258 residents successfully recovered from COVID-19 during June 13-19, 2020.

The rate of recoveries is a reason for optimism, but the battle is not over. The deaths that have occurred in long term care facilities are tragic, but because of the fearless dedication of our heroic caregivers, the vast majority of residents who have tested positive for the virus have fully recovered, and we hope that the recovery trend continues to rise.
