On September 11, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved for emergency use updated COVID-19 vaccines for 2023-2024 manufactured by ModernaTX Inc. and Pfizer Inc. These new vaccines are formulated to target current, more closely circulating variants and to provide better protection against serious consequences of COVID-19, including hospitalization and death.
On September 12, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) met to provide review the evidence and provide recommendations regarding use of these approved vaccines. The CDC recommends that if you have not received a COVID-19 vaccine in the past 2 months, to get the newly updated COVID-19 vaccine.
After months of website updates, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have launched an improved COVID-19 website. Based on the needs of the public, the updates are more streamlined and easier for the public to find relevant information on COVID-19. As the fall and winter months approach, it is likely that cases of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses will increase as people move indoors, and the website will be a helpful resource for relevant information.

May 18, 2023: CMS Memo QSO 20-39-NH: Nursing Home visitation – COVID-19 REVISED
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released QSO-20-39-NH REVISED on May 8. The memo reflects the end of the public health emergency (PHE) and adds that visitation is allowed for all residents at all times. The Core Principles of COVID-19 Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) include placing visual alerts at the entrances and other strategic places to include instructions about current IPC recommendations. Testing of residents and staff is to be done according to nationally accepted standards: those with symptoms, close contacts and those with high risk exposures
