Workforce Development

Building a strong workforce

Developing a skilled workforce for long term-care

Recruitment and retention of direct care workers is one of the largest challenges facing long term care providers across the nation. An increased demand for services due to an aging population and a declining supply of individuals seeking and maintaining careers in this profession are factors responsible for a looming workforce crisis. It will take a significant effort to attract, recruit and retain skilled workers.

IHCA/INCAL is dedicated to supporting our members in their efforts to recruit, train and retain quality staff. Learn more about our workforce development offerings and how they might be of use to you.

Report

State of the Nursing Home Industry

The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) released a survey of more than 400 nursing home providers from across the U.S. highlighting that the sector continues to face a serious workforce crisis. The lack of interested and qualified caregivers is forcing more than half of nursing homes to turn away new patients, and more than one-quarter have downsized their facility or closed completely. The survey also underscores how an unfunded, federal staffing mandate will be impossible for nursing homes to meet given the current labor market conditions.

Salary & Benefits and Compensation Survey Reports

The Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service conducts Nursing Home Salary & Benefits Reports and Assisted Living Salary & Benefits Reports, amongst others. This service covers skilled nursing, assisted living and long-term care facilities. The reports cover staffing positions, salaries, bonus data, etc.

      Zach Cattell

The rate of recoveries is a reason for optimism, but the battle is not over. The deaths that have occurred in long term care facilities are tragic, but because of the fearless dedication of our heroic caregivers, the vast majority of residents who have tested positive for the virus have fully recovered, and we hope that the recovery trend continues to rise.

        Zach Cattell

        President, Indiana Health Care Association

I have appreciated the support of IHCA/INCAL for many years. Long-term and post-acute healthcare is complex and is constantly changing. The association provides a larger voice to the issues that plague our profession and hinder our ability to thrive. It also facilitates the needed tools, training and support for survival and success.
