The AHCA/NCAL Quality Award Program

The AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program is a rigorous three-level process that evaluates long term care organizations capabilities against nationally recognized standards for excellence, making it one of the most comprehensive and cost-effective performance assessments available to providers. 

Award Levels

Member centers may apply for three progressive levels of awards: Bronze—Commitment to Quality, Silver—Achievement in Quality, or Gold—Excellence in Quality. Each level has its own distinct rigors and requirements for quality and performance excellence.

BRONZE COMMITMENT TO QUALITY

The first step in the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program is the Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award.

SILVER ACHIEVEMENT TO QUALITY

The second step in the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program is the Silver – Achievement in Quality Award.

GOLD EXCELLENCE TO QUALITY

The final step in the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program is the Gold – Excellence in Quality Award.

  • August 15, 2023: Application Portal/ Intent to Apply (ITA) Opens
  • October 3 – 2023 National Quality Award recipients will be recognized during AHCA/NCAL Delivering Solutions, Convention & Expo. Register today!
  • November 16, 2023: ITA deadline
  • January 25, 2024: Application deadline

Record Number of IHCA/INCAL members awarded 2023 AHCA/NCAL National Quality Awards

The Indiana Health Care Association/Indiana Center for Assisted Living is pleased to congratulate its 59 member communities across the state for setting an Indiana record in receiving the most National Quality Awards in the program’s history. Additionally, Indiana long term care facilities received the most Bronze Quality Awards in the nation.

The following four Indiana communities received the 2023 Silver – Commitment to Quality Award:

  1. Adams Heritage, Monroeville 
  2. Brickyard Healthcare – Knox, Knox 
  3. Monticello Healthcare, Monticello 
  4. Spring Valley Meadows, French Lick

Gold, Silver and Bronze Quality Award Virtual Workshops

IHCA/INCAL is excited to host a Gold, Silver and Bronze Quality Award virtual workshops to help our members better understand the application criteria, scoring, and strategies for a successful 2024 application submission.

  • Gold Quality Award Workshop is scheduled for Aug. 8, 14, 22, and 29 from 2-5 p.m. EDT.  Register here.

Performance Improvement

The Program provides a proven framework that organizations can use to make improvements in any clinical, quality or other operational outcome area. 90 percent of applicants identify performance improvement as a main reason in applying for an award.

Superior Outcomes

Research shows that Silver and Gold recipients have superior performance in key quality outcome areas such as 30-day hospital readmission, off-label use of antipsychotics, Five-Star ratings, occupancy rate and operating margin.

Regulatory Demands

The Program criteria prepares providers for regulatory demands such as CMS’ Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) requirements and the Medicare and Medicaid Requirements of Participation (RoP).

Esteemed Recognition

The AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award provides national, external validation of high quality care and services – the perfect information to share with your consumers, stakeholders and referral partners.

Renewal Policy

When an applicant becomes an award recipient, the terms and conditions of the renewal policy must be met in order to maintain active recipient status. Active recipients are considered to be performing at a level appropriate to their award designation and maintaining continuous quality improvement within their organization.
